A practical guide

How to tailor your resume to a job description

Tailoring helps the reader find the experience that matters for this role. You can change the emphasis without changing the facts.

Read the requirements before reaching for keywords

Pick out the work the employer needs done, the skills it requires and the experience it considers essential. Separate those from the list of nice-to-haves. Then find examples in your own work that address the important requirements.

If you do not have a requested skill, leave it out. A matching word is not worth a claim you cannot explain in an interview.

Make a separate version for the application

Open your resume and choose “Tailor to a job” below the document. Paste a public HTTPS job link and select “Read link,” or paste the full description yourself. Check the imported text and add the role and company if needed. Pages requiring sign-in or JavaScript may require the pasted-text option.

Emphasize the user research and stakeholder work relevant to this product designer role. Keep the original dates and metrics. Do not add tools or experience I have not listed.

Select “Prepare my CV.” Review the important requirements, the quotations from your CV and the details that need clarification. The assessment and suggested edits together use one AI operation. You can also use the regular assistant for a narrower request like the example above.

Review three parts of the draft

  1. Summary: does it explain the experience that makes you relevant to this role?
  2. Recent work: are the most relevant examples easy to find, with your contribution made clear?
  3. Skills: does the wording match terms the employer uses when those terms accurately describe your skills?

Compare the current and suggested wording, then select “Save my CV.” This creates a private version with the job description and assessment attached. Keep refining that document before exporting. MorphicID does not provide a numeric job-match score or guarantee an interview. AI assessments and wording still need your review.

Check the file, then send it

For a recruiting portal, start with Minimal and follow the employer’s file instructions. Download and open the PDF or DOCX to check its content and page breaks. If you share a link, remember that anyone with it can see the published resume and your contact details.
