A practical guide

How to edit an existing resume without starting over

Your last resume is a useful first draft. Start by fixing what has changed, then work on the details that will matter to the person reading it.

1. Bring in the document you already have

Open the editor and upload a PDF, DOC or DOCX file up to 10 MB. You can also paste the text. MorphicID turns the content into editable sections; it rebuilds the layout rather than preserving every detail of the original design.

A PDF needs selectable text. If it is a scan or photograph, paste a text version instead. After import, check that the contact details, roles and dates came through correctly.

2. Update the facts before rewriting the sentences

  • Use an email address and phone number you still check.
  • Add your latest role, dates and responsibilities.
  • Remove skills or links that no longer reflect your work.
  • Replace vague claims with a specific example you can explain in an interview.

Click the text on the preview to edit it. In the Sections tab, move or remove sections and add paragraphs, roles, contact details or bullet lists.

3. Ask for a focused rewrite

Select one section in the AI editor when you only need help with that part. A short request with a clear boundary is easier to review than a rewrite of the whole document.

Shorten this summary to three sentences. Keep the role, industry experience and facts. Remove vague phrases.

Compare the suggestion with your original. If it changes your meaning or adds a claim you cannot support, discard it or edit it by hand. Accepting a suggestion changes your draft; saving keeps it on your account.

4. Choose a layout and check the exported file

Editorial places labels beside the text. Modern uses a color banner and timeline. Minimal keeps the document in one column and is a useful starting point for applications through recruiting systems.

Try the font, spacing and margin controls, then open the exported PDF before sending it. Check page breaks, links, names and dates. Use the file format requested by the employer.

Keep the original for your next application

Duplicate a saved resume before making role-specific changes. That gives you a clean starting point for the next application. Here is how to tailor your resume to a job description .
